He was assassinated by two Tunisian assassins on September 9th 2001, ostensibly as part of the 9/11 process to draw the US into the Afghan war. This film looks at Massoud's life through the eyes of his colleagues and friends and examines what made him the great leader that he was. Massoud's personal meditation on Islam, history, civilization, literature, politics and military science, enabled him to draw from the writings of the 12th century philosopher, Al-Ghazali. This taught him to wage war without hatred, bitterness or revenge. He truly regarded armed struggle as only an imposed and necessary evil in order to defend the freedom of Afghanistan; certainly not as an end in itself to be enjoyed as bloodlust or intoxication with power. Such moral integrity amidst warfare ranks Massoud as a true philosopher-king of the 20th century, to be remembered for his compassion and humanity. He was one of the few civilized and humane warriors. He was Destiny's gift to Afghanistan in its time of crisis. The film about the life and times of the late Commander Ahmed Shah Massoud is 52 minutes long and has been shot on location in Afghanistan.
